Irina is an artist whose working practice consists of scouting average and unusual-looking young men and boys from the streets of Newcastle and convincing them to pose for fetish photography in her garage. She's caustic, callous, and rude. She's very beautiful and very judgmental about anyone who isn't. When she's not photographing, she's partying until early in the morning, obsessively avoiding carbs, and dragging others into her endless circle of recklessness. She is not your friend, but you kind of wish she was.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL tall, eye-catchingly pretty, with naturally red hair. either perfectly kept together (glossy hair, perfect makeup, glamorously dressed), or, after a night out, totally falling apart (makeup smeared all over her face, hair a mess, extensions falling out). she takes meticulous care of her appearance, especially her weight.

FASHION tends to dress 'sexy', with her cleavage and lots of skin on display, but she can dress 'soft' if she knows she needs to put someone at ease. prefers heels to flats.

Boy Parts comes with a laundry list of warnings centred around things Irina herself does as well as things she's experienced in her past. To avoid spoilers, I've written everything out as a list, but you can click on individual points on the list if you want more information on any of the elements — there will be explicit spoilers for the book, though.

Rape and sexual assault, sexual coercion, minor/adult, grooming

Irina was in a sexual relationship with her school art teacher when she was seventeen. She was groomed by him, but she has complicated feelings about it which she's never properly addressed and which may be the result of some of her sexual proclivities as an adult, admitting that she liked the attention and being treated roughly by a grown man. She was also taken advantage of by a friend at a party while almost passed out, but he didn't fully go through with it. Her other friends later had doubts about the story, because she often lies for attention.

Her fetish art is extremely exploitative: she often targets (young) men who have low self-esteem and flatters them with attention until they agree to pose for her, and she encourages them to perform in sexual scenarios as well as merely posing nude. When she finds out that one of her subjects, who she had sex with, had lied about his age and was under 18, she doesn't delete the photographs; instead, she saves them in an encrypted location on her hard drive. She has sexually assaulted men during her photoshoots, either by pushing them into sex with her, encouraging them to masturabte when they don't want to, or in one instance penetrating one of them with an object. She sells these photographs to private buyers as explicit fetish content, sometimes without informing their subjects she's doing this.

Disordered eating

Irina has an eating disorder and is very judgmental of those who don't share her disordered eating patterns. She is obsessive about her weight and the appearance of her body and deliberately avoids carbs and fatty foods where possible.

Self-harm

Irina frequently self-harms as a way of tamping down on her emotions or to "punish" herself, mainly cutting her hips and thighs, sometimes with scissors.

Violence, gore, eye trauma

Irina often has violent fantasies, related to an experience she had with a subject of her photography where she feared that he was about to attack her and defended herself by smashing a bottle over his face. With the young man (possibly just a teenager; her memory is fuzzy) severely injured and half-blind, she panicked and killed him by strangling him in her bathtub, and then chopped his body up and buried it in various locations. She calls him "my boy" when thinking about him, and has some degree of sexual fantasy related to the experience; she regularly chokes men during sex, enough to leave bruises around their neck, and often imagines men with glass sticking out of their eyes.

Drug abuse, alcohol abuse, drug pushing

Irina is a serial drug user and an alcoholic. She primarily uses cocaine, but will take almost anything. She also tends to push drugs onto her friends, even if they specifically tell her they don't want to take any, or want to avoid a particular drug while partying.

She occasionally experiences hallucinations in moments of intensity: she has frequently imagined that she injured a man more severely than she actually did. This leads her to doubt her memories, unsure of what actually happened and what was a fabrication.
